Who operates this service
Your Legal Pit operates this website from Colorado for visitors across the United States. For questions about your information, email legal@yourlegalpit.com. We provide research and preparation tools, not legal representation.
Start in your browser
The case-file, letter, research-note, and checklist tools initially keep your work in the open tab. They do not upload it automatically. “Save on this device” stores a copy in this browser’s local storage and updates it as you work. Browser storage is not encrypted by this application; someone with access to your browser profile may be able to read it.
Turning browser saving off removes that stored copy while retaining the current tab’s work. “Clear workspace” clears this tab and the saved browser copy after confirmation. Neither action deletes downloads or an account copy. Browser cleanup and private browsing may remove local work, and we cannot recover it.
Accounts and saved copies
If you choose to sign in, we use your email address to send a single-use verification code. We store your verified email address, account creation date, acceptance version, and session records. Necessary session cookies keep you signed in for up to seven days. Verification codes expire after ten minutes and are limited to five attempts.
“Save to account” uploads your current case fields, draft letter, research notes, and checklist to our server after confirmation. Account copies and email addresses are encrypted before storage in MongoDB. HTTPS protects the browser connection. This is server-side encryption, not end-to-end encryption: authorized operation and maintenance of the service can require access to the encryption key. Do not enter unnecessary sensitive identifiers or information you are not entitled to store.
Signing in does not load or upload a case automatically. “Load account copy” asks before replacing your current work. Each account holds one saved workspace. Later edits require another save, and the service rejects a save when another tab has changed the account copy.
Retention and deletion
Account information and saved work remain until you delete them. You can delete the account copy from the workspace, or delete your account and active saved copy from the account page. These actions do not remove browser copies, downloaded files, or email you have sent. Temporary codes, sessions, and abuse-prevention records expire automatically. Operational backups, where enabled, are retained for no more than seven days.
Keep a downloaded backup of important preparation. This service is not your sole document archive. Contact us by email if you need assistance with access, correction, or deletion; we may need to verify control of the account.
Email enquiries
Help and lawyer-interest forms prepare a draft in your email application. You review and send it yourself. We receive that message only when you send it. Keep the initial enquiry brief and nonconfidential; do not send identity documents, medical records, passwords, or detailed evidence. Email is processed by MXroute and by your own email provider. We retain correspondence while handling the enquiry and as needed for follow-up or applicable obligations. Contact us to request deletion.
Hosting, research links, and assistants
The website and account database run on DigitalOcean infrastructure. We use technical access information and short-lived, pseudonymous rate-limit records to operate and protect the service. There are no advertising pixels or application analytics, and fonts and site assets are hosted locally. We do not sell account or case information or send it to an AI service.
Independent research links open third-party sites with their own privacy practices. Choosing “Search CourtListener” sends your search keywords to that service. Avoid confidential facts in searches. If you choose to use a browser assistant, its provider’s controls also apply; the workspace’s optional assistant tools can navigate, report preparation status, and generate a draft from the information you entered. They do not send or file documents.
Sharing is not representation
Creating an account, saving work, or emailing us does not establish an attorney–client relationship or legal privilege. Review a lawyer’s engagement and privacy terms before sharing confidential materials with that provider.
